In celebrating 10 years of their open access program, the University of Ottawa highlighted major milestones:

  • Adopting an open access policy
  • Establishing an Open Scholarship Award in 2016 that “recognizes faculty leaders that demonstrate excellence in supporting and practicing open scholarship. Open scholarship encompasses all aspects of open access, open data and open educational resources in both teaching and research.”
  • Financial support for open access publishing through publisher discounts with seven publishers, 50% of OA publishing fees with publishers not included in the discount program, and financial support for open access initiatives including Knowledge Unlatched, Open Library of the Humanities, SPARC, and the Public Knowledge Project.
  • 28,000 items in the institutional repository uO Research
  • 15+ OA journals
  • 80+ titles published with the University of Ottawa Press Open Access Collection
